Evan’s Kitchen
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009When we entered Evan’s Kitchen, I noticed a really cute pig holding a wine bottle up on a shelf. It really looked a little home-like inside. On the menu, they had lots of choices kids would like. They had grilled cheese sandwiches, spaghetti, macaroni and cheese and mini burgers. I ordered the spaghetti and to me it tasted really good and had really good sauce. My mother said it tasted like her Nana’s, her great-grandmother’s, sauce. Two slices of garlic bread came with it. It though it was really soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. It wasn’t too garlicky or buttery–it was just perfect. My brother and I devoured the garlic bread. My brother got a grilled cheese sandwich that came with fries. I thought it was very crunchy and had amazing cheese. My brother liked it too. The steak fries were very large, salty but not too salty and very soft. I really liked them! My mom had a spinach, walnut, gorgonzola and pear salad and it was huge. It came with a roll. It was very soft, fresh and sweet. For dessert, we ordered the kids brownie sundae. It was a child’s dream–a warm gooey brownie with cold, sweet ice cream and fluffy whipped cream. My brother and I pretty much dove into it! Don’t worry, Mom got a taste too. I think this is a really great place for kids and could be a really good place for a child’s first experience at a restaurant because they have great children’s food and the desserts are yummy.

Girl Scout Cookies
Friday, February 13th, 2009
I have been a Girl Scout for 5 years which I am very proud of. I am now a Junior Girl Scout.
I made brownies using my favorite kind of Girl Scout cookies, Carmel Delites. To see the recipe, go to the Bulletin Board and click on Natalie’s Fox 40 Blog Posts.
As I said my favorite kind are Carmel Delites. They are vanilla cookies with coconut shavings and carmel with cocoa drizzle on top. My second favorite are Thin Mints. They are a little bit pepperminty and taste very chocolatey. I think they are the most popular Girl Scout cookie. Lemonades are also very delicious. They are my mother’s favorite. They are shortbread with a tangy lemony, yellow icing on the bottom and on the top it looks like a sliced lemon. My brother’s favorite are peanut butter patties. Its a vanilla cookie with some peanut butter on top with chocolate all around the outside. The Thanks-a-lots have the word ‘thank you’ on them in all different languages. They are shortbread with fudge on the bottom. They are crunchy and tasty! I think the Shortbreads are the cookie that started it all. They are in the shape of the Girl Scout logo and they are a buttery shortbread cookie. The Peanut Butter Sandwiches are crunchy oatmeal cookies with creamy peanut butter in the middle. Yum. The Daisy Go Rounds are a cinnamon-y cookie in the shape of a daisy. The come with 5 100 calorie packs in a box. I love Girl Scout cookies! I hope you love them too!

Making Sushi
Tuesday, December 30th, 2008
I really enjoyed making sushi in the Fox 40 Live studio. Chef Art was very nice. There were even different animals you can make with sushi like dolphins, ladybugs, snakes and even penguins. Here’s how you do it: you get a square sheet of seaweed, then you dip your hands into a dish of water to prevent the stickiness of the rice from sticking to your hands, then you put a thick layer on the edge of the rise. After that you flip it over and put whatever you want. For example, I put shrimp. You put it on the edge but make sure it doesn’t slip off the seaweed. Then you roll it up and make sure the shrimp is inside and the white rice is on the outside. You use a bamboo mat to help roll. Cut it up in bite size pieces. Viola! There’s your sushi! Enjoy it! Chef art made a happy face with the sushi on the plate. There was some light yellow and light reddish sauce on it. I had never tried sushi before and I thought it was delicious!
