Tower Cafe

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Tower Café is on Broadway near the Tower Theatre. It has around the world decorations inside. They are very kind to kids. For example, the waiter was trying to convince my brother to try the Hawaiian Banana Pancake. After a while he said he would try it. When it came and he tried it, he said he didn’t like it. I sort of liked them. They were a little bit buttery and had a little bit of banana flavor. My mom and dad did not really like them. I got the Seasonal French Toast. I thought it didn’t really have enough flavor and it was a little bit too soggy for me. I think it needs a little more sweetness. I may not taste good to me but it may taste good to grown-ups. My dad ordered Crab Cake Benedict. My dad liked the crab but not the sauce very much. I didn’t really taste any flavor in the crab cake but it had a nice texture. I even got a little crunch in the crab cake. It came with potatoes. It tasted like burnt French fry and was very crunchy, in a good way. The dessert case looked creative. For example the Yin and Yang Cake looked like Yin and Yang on top. When my brother and I looked into the case, we finally agreed on Chocolate Raspberry Mousse Cake. It was beautiful. The crust had some pistachio nuts in it. The chocolate was nice, rich and creamy. The raspberry mousse was a bit tart but not bad. My dad ordered a chocolate chip cookie. He shared it with me and my brother, which was very nice. The cookie was just right. Not too chocolaty, not too crunchy. My favorite part was the dessert. I think children and grown-ups will love the desserts.

Scott’s Seafood

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

When we went to Scott’s Seafood and sat down they offered us crayons and we said “Yes, thank you.” On the box it said they were soybean crayons. They also had a sea creatures coloring menu. After that, they brought us bread and butter. It had crunchy-softish crust. Then they brought a Caesar salad. It had crunchy croutons, garlicky, lemony dressing and a good amount of parmesan. I loved it! I had the crab cakes. They came with fried green onions, like a crunchy tempura. The crab cakes were a little crunchy and good. I ate both of them. They had a good amount of crab. I would definitely order them again. My mom ordered the Macadamia Nut Crusted Halibut. My mom and dad loved it. It came with rice, carrots and green beans. I didn’t try my mom’s dish because those aren’t my favorite things. My dad ordered Dungeness Crab and Asparagus Ravioli. The ravioli were good and so was the cheese and crab inside them. My dad thought it was really good. My brother ordered grilled cheese. It was not on the menu but they made it for him out of hamburger buns and cheese. It was his favorite! It came with fries. I liked it. When he dipped the fries in catsup, he said it looks like a lit candle. I thought it did too. For dessert, we ordered chocolate lava cake and caramel heath bar gelato. The cake was chocolaty and fabulous. It had a little bit of raspberry sauce which was extra delicious and it was nice and warm. The gelato was creamy and I did taste the toffee. The restaurant looks fancy but it’s very kid-friendly. The staff was very attentive. The waitress said not a lot of kids order crab cakes. If you ever go there and you have kids, just ask them to try them, just once. The reason kids don’t order them is maybe because they have never tried them. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Yogurt Monkey

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Yogurt Monkey is a yogurt shop on Fair Oaks and Munroe where you choose your own frozen yogurt and toppings. Some of the yogurt choices were chocolate, vanilla, pomegranate, peanut butter and original tart. (I brought my stuffed monkey named Steve with us.) I got chocolate with butterscotch topping, chocolate sauce, little brownie pieces, orange crunch, thin mint and 1 gummy worm. I called it my own version of worms and dirt! It was very chocolaty. My mom got vanilla with chopped peanuts, chocolate syrup and whipped cream and she liked it a lot. Both my parents liked the taste of the yogurt. My dad got the pomegranate yogurt and he thought it was some of the best yogurt he’s ever had. My brother got vanilla with m&ms and rainbow sprinkles and a little chocolate syrup. I loved getting my own yogurt and toppings and visiting with my friends.

Fresh Choice

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Fresh Choice is a little bit like a cafeteria where you go up and get your own food. They have a really long salad bar, a bread and baked potato station, a pasta and soup station and a fruit and dessert station. I had macaroni and cheese, Italian dinner rolls, a baked potato, corn on the cob, raisins, goldfish, and herbed rice. The mac and cheese was really soft and the cheese was very gooey. Just how I like it! The baked potato was really soft and mushy inside. I sort of like it that way. I put my own butter and salt on it. It was good. The herbed rice was really good. I can’t really explain the flavor. It is kind of herb-y. I put some butter and salt on the corn on the cob. It was really juicy and sweet and I loved it. The raisins and goldfish crackers I put together. The raisins were sweet and chewy and the goldfish were crunchy. My parents made salads and had clam chowder and corn bread muffins and liked them all. My brother liked his cheese pizza. For dessert my mom made us her ‘special’. She made it up herself. You should try it. It’s a chocolate brownie with whipped topping. On top of the whipped topping you can put nuts or sprinkles. I choose nuts. And for a little fanciness, she put a ring of caramel around the plate and dots of chocolate syrup. Fresh Choice is great because you can go and get your own food and you are always welcome to get more. Fresh Choice is a great place to try new things because if you don’t like them, you can just go get something else and if you do like it, you can get more.

Fat City

Monday, September 1st, 2008

I visited Fat City with my family during Gold Rush Days in Old Sacramento. When I sat down at the table, there were two kids’ menus; one for me and one for my brother. It had a fun word search puzzle on it. It was a little bit tricky but I found all the words. I helped my brother a little bit. When our drinks came, I tried some of my delicious root beer. It was really cold and refreshing. The decorations were kind of old fashioned and they had stained glass lamps. I ordered a cheese quesadilla from the kids menu and my brother ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and fries. They were $6.25 each and kid’s drinks were $2.95. From the grown-up menu, my grandma ordered a Mexican Frittata that came with a biscuit and breakfast potatoes. My dad ordered Eggs Benedict without the ham and my mom ordered fried cheese ravioli off the appetizer list. All of the entrees came with a bowl of fresh fruit. For the quesadilla, it was good and crispy. I liked the cheese a little bit. My brother’s grilled cheese and fries were really good. It tasted like grilled garlic bread with cheese in the middle. I loved the garlicky taste of the bread. The fries were a tiny bit crispy and good. They were thin french fries. My grandma’s breakfast potatoes were really soft and had a great fried potatoy flavor. Her biscuit was really soft and buttery on the inside and nice and little crispy on the outside. I loved the soft buttery flavor on the inside. Last but not least, my mom’s fried cheese ravioli. It tasted a little bit like a fried mozzarella stick except the cheese was a little different. It was pretty good. I had never tried fried cheese ravioli before. Fat City is a great place for adults and children to try new things.

You can see video of me at Fat City and in the Fox 40 studio under the Videos tab.
